Penelope (u)

DESPITE the U certificate potentially putting off older viewers, this is a fun fairy tale for all ages.

With a particularly strong appeal for girls aged between eight and 14, the story is about a girl born with a pig's nose thanks to a family curse.

The cast includes Christina Ricci and James McAvoy supported by Richard E Grant, Catherine O'Hara, Lenny Henry, Nigel Havers, Nick Frost from Hot Fuzz and even comedians Ronni Ancona and Russell Brand.

Written by Leslie Caveny (Everybody Loves Raymond) and directed by Mark Palansky, Penelope has the production values of a 15 movie.

Unlike the rest of this week's releases, it's full of imagination, lovely sets, funny scenes and a decent score.

Out to buy for £17.99, the extras include some exclusive DVD-ROM content including wallpaper, screensavers and cut-out-and-keep mask.
