The Ringer (12a)

THE Special Olympics are about to be gatecrashed by able-bodied Johnny Knoxville.

Desperate to fund a domestic insurance claim, how far will his character Steve Barker get before he's rumbled by the authorities?

Made by the Farrelly Brothers (There's Something About Mary/ Kingpin), this again has the surprising tenderness of their conjoined twins' comedy, Stuck On You.

What sounds like a bad taste comedy is actually an often very funny mixture of pratfalls and learned insight from a mostly disabled cast clearly enjoying gainful employment in a town which usually shuns all but the perfect.
