Curious George (U)

BASED on a 1941 series of children's books of the same name by German-born writer Margret Rey and illustrator husband Hans Augusto Rey, this is Madagascar/The Wild in reverse.

Or, if you prefer, King Kong in miniature.

Directed by little known Matthew O'Callaghan, the more traditional animation adds weight to the characters at the expense of trying to show off visually.

Ted, the Man in the Yellow Hat, returns to America from Africa with a curious monkey called George. But will his discovery be enough to save Ted's museum from being turned into a multi-storey car park?

A sympathetic Will Ferrell leads the cast as Ted, with Drew Barrymore as potential love interest Maggie Dunlop.

Further strong support comes from Eugene Levy (Clovis), Dick Van Dyke (Mr Bloomsberry) and Joan Plowright (Miss Plushbottom), making this 87 minutes of fun for all ages.
