Atomised (15)

WELL acted and, by turns, controversial, depressing and strangely powerful, Atomised is the 111-minute story of two half-brothers who didn't meet until they were teenagers.

Michael is a German molecular scientist who was too shy to kiss the childhood girlfriend who reappears, while Bruno is a sexually frustrated, suicidal teacher. Oh, and he's racist, too.

Sociologists and psychologists might enjoy fathoming out this interpretation of Michel Houellebecq's novel The Elementary Particles.

Others will simply conclude that German director Oskar Roehler launches more missiles into society than he could detonate, while the characters threaten to implode around him.

Showing at AMC Broadway Plaza only.
