Renaissance (15)

SET IN Paris 2054, Christian Volckman's thriller is a bold animation that's well worth a look for genre lovers.

Simply by daring to offer a mostly black and white alternative pitch that's halfway between Sin City and Japanese anime, the first reel challenges you to inhabit the film's sensational look.

Some inventive direction eventually helps you to become fully immersed inside this strange new reality, but, with the look so dominant, it's hard work keeping up with the convoluted 105-minute plot about mad scientists and kidnappings.

The voice talents include new 007 star Daniel Craig, fast-rising Romola Garai, Jonathan Pryce, Ian Holm and Caherine McCormack.

Showing at Cineworld Broad St only.
