Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny (15)

IT'S just as well that 'rock' rhymes with a certain similar word otherwise there wouldn't be much left of this wafer-thin script for Jack Black to chew on.

Clearly hoping for another hit to match his own School of Rock (2003), which in turned followed Mark Wahlberg's enjoyable turn in Rock Star (2001), the 37-year-old Californian dreams of hitting the rock 'n' roll big time as guitarist JB with new friend KG (Kyle Gass).

Taking its title from the real-life US rockers, Tenacious D, this 94-minute comedy is all about the search for a fabled guitar pick which can transform careers.

Intermittently funny thanks to the best scenes from the trailer and two good cameos from Ben Stiller and pint-sized veteran rocker Ronnie James Dio, Tenacious D slides slowly but surely towards a string of bum notes.

It's directed by Ohio-born Liam Lynch.
