Orchestra Seats

ORIGINAL French title Fauteuils d'orchestre sounds more impressive than the English translation.

But why give what's meant to be an inspirational film such an uninspiring new label?

Directed and co-written by veteran film-maker Daniele Thompson, a screenplay-writing Oscar-nominee for Cousin, Cousine 30 years ago, the 105-minute story is about a girl who learns that sometimes in life you have to push yourself forward.

Landing a job as a waitress at a place that doesn't usually take on women, she discovers how even talented stars can be unfulfilled.

Prolific octogenarian actress Suzanne Flon died at the age of 87 after bookending this film as Madama Roux, the grandma who sets Jessica on her way.

Despite subtitles, it will help to be fluent in French.

Showing at MAC and Warwick Arts Centre.
