A Mighty Heart

FRESH from making little impression in US cinemas, Angelina Jolie stars in this post 9/11 drama about a Wall Street Journal reporter who is kidnapped in Pakistan.

Nobody captures the Third World better than Blackburn-born director Michael Winter-bottom (Welcome to Sarajevo/ The Road to Guantanamo).

Career-best Jolie delivers a magnificent, non-starry turn as Mariane Pearl, whose book about her husband, Daniel (Dan Futterman) inspired the 107-minute film.

The climax is the grimmest we've seen for a while and numbed audiences will leave in the most sombre mood since United 93.
