Nancy Drew

ORIGINALLY created in 1930, the Nancy Drew teenage sleuth books have sold more than 200 million copies.

But The Craft director Andrew Fleming loses an opportunity to create a modern, silver screen heroine for teenage girls to rival Harry Potter.

Emma Roberts, daughter of Eric and niece of Julia, is capable enough in the title role thanks to the silver spoon sticking out of those inherited lips.

But, while the film is faithful, it's also lacklustre.

Grandparents, though, should enjoy the back story about fictional Dehlia Draycott, a golden era Hollywood star whose fate Nancy prefers to worrying about bitchy fashion comments from her new school mates.
