The Magic Flute

THIS movie restores the flair Kenneth Branagh last displayed with Hamlet a decade ago.

Echoing Shakespeare's line "Though this be madness, yet there is method in't", The Magic Flute sets Mozart's opera in some WWI trenches.

A running time of 135-minutes, though, will limit the film's appeal to fans of The Magic Flute who are feeling experimental enough to see The Queen of the Night astride a tank and the three regal attendants turned into sexy nuns.

Showing at Warwick Arts Centre today till Thursday and MAC for a week from Friday.
