DAVID Mamet’s new thriller is a study of determination and resilience in the face of formidable odds, revolving around martial-arts instructor Mike (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who is struggling to make a success of the school he runs with his wife Sondra (Alice Braga).
During a lesson with fiery-tempered cop Joe (Max Martini), Mike has a run-in with emotionally-disturbed lawyer Laura (Emily Mortimer), which sets in motion a chain of devastating misfortunes.
In time, Mike meets movie star Chet (Tim Allen) and his manager Jerry (Joe Mantegna), who hire him to add a sheen of realism to their new war movie.
Fate conspires against Mike, and he is forced to take part in a lucrative TV brawl that could save the business from collapse.
