ALSO known as Entre Les Murs, director Laurent Cantet’s French film was Oscar-nominated this year and will appeal to anyone who wants to literally share a classroom with 25 students in a multi-cultural French school for most of its entire 130 minutes.

Race, identity and discipline become key battlegrounds as cultures and attitudes spark clashes between teachers and pupils. Cantet’s impressive film is a microcosm of the modern youth and a journey worth taking if you like sitting still. But, if you believe that cinema should take you to places that are visually attractive, spending two hours in a classroom watching subtitles might grow wearisome.

Showing only at the Electric Cinema, Station Street from today till Tuesday.
