Traitor (12A)

Traitor

WHEN Osama Bin Laden sent those aeroplanes into the Twin Towers on September 9, 2001, he also put a bomb under Hollywood which has struggled to adapt ever since as everything from The Kingdom to Rendition and Lions for Lambs illustrate.

Traitor is one of the better post 9/11 juggernauts since it strives to achieve a blend of realism and entertainment.

Its subject matter is too heartfelt to make it a rival for The Bourne trilogy, but lower profile actors like Don Cheadle (Samir Horn) and Guy Pearce (Roy Clayton) make decent adversaries.

Horn is a devout American Muslim and a former US Army Special Forces explosives’ expert.

Clayton is an FBI agent who wants to capture Horn before there are any more terrorist bombings.

Taglined “the truth is complicated”, at the heart of the film is the notion that today’s multi-ethnic world makes it increasingly difficult to work out just whose side anybody is on.
