Unsigned bands do battle

FOUR unsigned Midland bands are battling it out in Birmingham tonight in a bid to win a place in a national music competition final.

The Gravity Crisis, The Leonards, The Crooks and The Vehicles are performing at The Rainbow, Digbeth, for the chance to play in the final of the Red Stripe Music Awards.

Each band will have just a few songs to prove they deserve a final spot which could lead to dates at major festivals. The Birmingham gig is one of over 50 heats taking place throughout the UK. Last year's winners, The Runners, have since played live sessions on Steve Lamacq's Radio 1 show, performed at two major festivals and released a single.
