The Zombies and The Yardbirds, Symphony Hall

THEY may be at the very end of the A-Z of British rock 'n' roll, but the Yardbirds and the Zombies should rightly be there at the forefront.

The incredible legacy left by guitar legends Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page is now being maintained in the current Yardbirds line-up by gifted young lead guitarist Ben King.

He is joined by equally talented newcomers John Idan, from Detroit, on bass guitar/lead vocals and Billy Boy Miskimmin, on harmonica.

They superbly compliment original members Jim McCarty (drums) and Chris Dreja (guitar) in recreating the Yardbirds' great blues-tinged sound that included classics such as For Your Love and Heart Full Of Soul.

The Zombies, featuring former stalwarts Rod Argent and Colin Blunstone are no less captivating.

The band is currently enjoying something of a revival with a new "best of" compilation entitled The Zombies And Beyond.
