Bad Buster to celebrate half century

LARGER than life ska singer Buster Bloodvessel celebrates his 50th birthday with a gig at Birmingham Barfly on September 16.

Buster has led a truly eclectic life, having been a pop star with Bad Manners, a successful hotelier, restaurateur, record company executive, sea captain and boat owner!

It was in 1976 that an assorted rabble of teen tearaways were thrown together and evolved into the crazy pop group Bad Manners. None of them could play an instrument but they did have bags of raw talent and a determination to succeed.

The band had chart success with the Can Can, Special Brew, Lip up Fatty and My Girl Lollipop, all between 1979 and 1985.

The story could have ended there - and for some of the original line-up it did. But Buster's passion for performing didn't allow him to do that and now, after three decades on the road, the band has cult status.
