Local Heros - The Fillmore Gears
Name: Pete Smyth (vocals).
Age: 25.
Home: Birmingham.
Band: The Fillmore Gears.
Other members: Mak Siddiqui (guitars), Dave Bharier (bass), Andy Lees (drums).
Band history: We started 18 months ago, just jamming. I was the drummer. We couldn’t find a decent singer, till one rehearsal when I had a go, and realised I was exactly what we needed! We then found an amazing drummer who could play like John Bonham. We have gigged at the Barfly, Academy 2, the Flapper, Little Civic and the sadly missed Jug of Ale, supporting acts like the Mystery Jets, Cage the Elephant and Pendulum. Great things are still to come!
Type of music: Heavy rock / blues / punk.
Influences: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Beatles, The Stooges, Rage Against The Machine.
Current favourite band: Rage Against The Machine.
Current release: Like A Train EP.
Musical highlight: Playing Carling Academy 2 to a room packed with screaming fans.
Musical lowpoint: Playing second to a dog show at the Dubstock Festival (how very Spinal Tap!)
Ambition: To be the greatest rock band to hail from the Midlands.
Next Midland gig: The Actress & Bishop on September 19. It’s gonna be awesome!
