Local lads backing their hero

Voodoo Johnson.

MIDLAND rockers Voodoo Johnson have a dream gig tonight when they support Duff McKagan’s Loaded at Wolverhampton’s Wulfrun Hall.

The former Guns n’ Roses and Velvet Revolver bass player is one of Voodoo Johnson’s heroes – and his music is a big influence on the band.

Formed in 2005 by guitar playing brothers Carl and Paul Gethin, bassist Ben Picken and drummer Dave Barker – and later joined by vocalist David Roberts, they have supported the likes of Hawkwind, The Zico Chain, Tokyo Dragons, Valient Thorr and Sign.

Carl also won Total Guitar’s 2005 Riffathon competition with a cover of All Along The Watchtower. The event, held at London’s Hammersmith Palais, included a meeting with the judges – Jimmy Page, Brian May and Dan Hawkins.

The band is currently hard at work writing material for their new EP, scheduled for a late 2008 release.
