Rafta Rafta, Birmingham Rep Theatre

RARELY does something successfully cross both the cultural and time divide.

But that is certainly the case with this splendid comic tale pended by East Is East author Ayub Khan-Din.

He has taken Bill Naughton's original 1960s story All In Good Time and swapped the original characters for a contemporary close-knit Indian family living in Bolton.

The transformation is impeccable as a young couple's failure to consummate their marriage leads to strains.

This National Theatre production also benefits from a fabulous dolls house style set which allows the scenes to change effortlessly.

It runs until February 16.
