Moon Over Buffalo. The Fellowship Players, Grange Playhouse, Walsall

FADING rep stars George and Charlotte Hay are on the way out yet still dreaming of a big break, in this amusing comedy by Ken Ludwig.

And when they hear that famous producer Frank Capra is dropping in to see their company's performance of Private Lives in a theatre at Buffalo, New York, it triggers a series of crazy situations.

Chris Pomlett is convincing as George, particularly in the scene where he becomes hopelessly drunk before curtain up.

But could he really have chalked 'Cyrano' on the backstage blackboard in such a straight line? I doubt it.

A confident performance, too, from Sue Richardson in the role of the shallow Charlotte.

Contributing to the accelerating chaos is Val Best as grandma/costume mistress Ethel whose severe hearing problem leads to a very funny case of mistaken identity.

Moon Over Buffalo shines until Saturday.
