Of Mice And Men, Dudley Little Theatre, Netherton Arts Centre

LYNDSEY Ann Parker's fine production is dominated by the two players at its heart.

However good the supporting company - and here it is excellent - the John Steinbeck classic about two likeable hicks who move from one ranch to another in America's Deep South in search of work depends completely on the bond that they have established and the confidence with which it is portrayed. This pairing is excellent.

Mark Wilcox, as Lennie, the not very bright gentle giant who tends to kill small animals because he does not know the strength with which he strokes them, is superb.

And Pete Harris, as his kindly friend George, constantly frustrated by the way Lennie forgets things, carries conviction by the bucketload as the two of them plan to buy a little place of their own.

The rest of the company ensures that the pace and atmosphere are maintained without a hitch.

This is an evening of absorbing theatre and it remains on offer until tomorrow.
