Irresistible buzz to high-energy fun

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton

A HIGH energy, high decibel show makes no concessions to any patron who is accustomed to doze in the theatre. This is happy, noisy and vibrant.

It's based on the flimsiest of stories - the difficulties besetting the central pairing because one of them plays basketball and the other is auditioning for a stage part.

But the story doesn't matter.

What is important is the irresistible buzz that is the show's trademark - expressed in the choreography and the musical numbers.

The likeable duo at the heart of the action - Ashley Day and Lorna Want - receive unflagging support from a hard-working company, It's a cracking show, brimming with music with which we shall presumably become familiar as time goes by. It runs until tomorrow.

VERDICT:****
