Annie, Get Your Gun, The Arcadians, Crescent Theatre, Birmingham

THIS is a production that has efficiency but not fizz.

Some of the show-stopper numbers like The Sun In The Morning and You Can't Get A Man With A Gun make you sit up and take notice - but in general this is a show that runs like a well-oiled machine without actually offering the tingle that would lift it up a notch.

Chloe Turner is Annie, the gregarious gun-slinger who gets her man by revealing a fallible trigger finger. This is a boisterous, bossy performance; an Annie who stands no nonsense - but who is apt to dissolve decisively in the company of her rival sharpshooter, Frank Butler, played by Simon Burgess with a pleasing singing voice.

On the night I was there, some of Frank's attempts at shooting came without any sign of a bang.

The show runs until tomorrow.
