Fun with the big purple dinosaur
BIRMINGHAM'S Alexandra Theatre is giving parents a helping hand in keeping the children entertained with a series of shows aimed at youngsters.
Kicking off the summer is that lovable purple dinosaur Barney who takes youngsters on a magical adventure in Barney Live! Let's Go Tour.
When Barney's friends BJ, Biff and Baby Bop want to share their toys with the children they accidentally break them. But Barney is determined they should all have some fun so takes the audience off to a magical toy factory where the imagination machine can create new toys - powered by the children's imagination.
The fun takes place on July 30 at 3.30pm and on July 31 at 11am and 2pm.
Dinosaurs of a different kind take to the stage in Harry and the Bucket Full of Dinosaurs on September 6 at 2.30pm.
As Harry turns five he decides to explore the attic with his gran. And as he shines his torch around the dimly lit room he finds a dusty old box which must have laid untouched for millions of years as it contains six dinosaurs.
And for older children Shakespeare 4 Kidz returns with their version of Romeo and Juliet The Musical. Shakespeare's famous story of doomed love and family rivalries is given a new twist with a rock'n'roll score.
At the Alex on October 6 with perfor mances at 10.30am and 1.30pm, the show is aimed at children in Key Stages 2 and 3.
Also this summer youngsters from across the West Midlands will be joining forces for the Stage Experience in which they will take the audience back to the 1970s for Boogie Nights.
Performed on August 20-23, the show features tunes such as Boogie Wonderland, Celebration, Disco Inferno and I Will Survive.
The young people, who all auditioned for places in the show, will have spent two weeks rehearsing with professional theatre staff. Boogie Nights follows previous Stage Experiences which have seen Summer Holiday, Fame, Copacabana and West Side Story performed by youngsters.
