Feel the heat as new theatre group stages Pinter’s black comedy

A NEW professional theatre group in Birmingham is aiming to generate some heat in Birmingham this weekend.

Friction Theatre is presenting The Homecoming by Harold Pinter.

The black comedy will play at the Crescent Theatre tonight and tomorrow at 7.45pm, with a Saturday matinee also planned for 2.45pm. Tickets are £10 (concessions £8).

The story is set inside a quiet London house. Occupied by a father and his sons, it’s a hotbed of vice, lust and violence. When the third son Teddy arrives from America with his new wife, she soon becomes the focus for the whole family.

A classic story of barely repressed sexuality, Pinter’s play is seen as a trademark exploration of underlying menace and violence.

After starring in more than 100 productions since he made his debut as Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night back in 1972, Crescent veteran actor Geoff Poole will play Max in The Homecoming.

Geoff says: “This time we are forming our own company, Friction Theatre, which means that we will have to fund it ourselves.

“So, if we don’t sell we will be out of pocket!”
